The Schooner Dove

1:30 · Pinky schooner, 1875

Schooners were popular in North America in the nineteenth century as fishing boats.

The pinky schooner Dove had a hull 13.80 m long and 3.96 m wide. She was designed and built by S. Baltzler in 1875 at the Minas Basin, Nova Scotia, one of Canada’s three Maritime provinces. She fished out of Cape Ann, north-east of Boston, Massachusetts. Pinkies were prized for their seaworthiness, and the Dove also carried visitors around the Bay of Fundy, between New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and the US state of Maine.

About the model

The model shows the pinky’s characteristic high, pointed stern, two gaff-rigged masts and an open working deck.
